Artist Statement

Adopted from Guatemala and raised in Southeast Michigan, I've always struggled with my identity. I explore, navigate, and connect with my emotions through my practice. As a multidisciplinary artist, I utilize painting, printmaking, metal and glass casting, glassblowing, and stone carving. By delving into this diverse array of mediums, I can appreciate the processes of other artists and identify which ones I resonate most with. Some require hours of intense physical labor, while others are more detail-oriented, both of which I value for the dedication they demand.

In my work, I combine these mediums to create a tension, a push and pull between cohesion and disintegration. Even in work where only one medium is used, I’m still able to convey the theme of overcoming barriers or undergoing transformation. With art serving as a vital outlet, I’m able to release the incessant paradoxical thoughts and emotions within my mind. 

Motivation for my work comes from a desire to find resolution amidst the complexities of my identity. I aspire to uncover a sense of belonging and purpose, not only for myself but also for others who may share similar struggles. Ultimately, my goal is to connect with individuals who resonate with the question of where they fit in, inviting them to engage with my art and feel validated in their experiences. I envision my work as a catalyst for empathy and understanding, offering a space for mutual recognition and connection.
