I Don’t Know, I Don’t Remember

Approx. 9ft x 2ft, 2023

Black ink on cotton paper, burned

11 participants were asked to identify a time in their life where “I Don’t Know, I Don’t Remember” could be a significant phrase. Whether that was a memory they truly cannot remember or one they do remember but would rather not. Each person’s handwriting was then collected, scanned, and laid over top of each other. After exposing the image on a light sensitive plate and printed, each participant was told to burn/destroy their copy while still leaving something behind.
